5th Tuesdaytweetup A Success

Last night witnessed the last of the tuesdaytweetups (in 2009) at Dockgate 4 in Southampton.

It was a great success with attendees coming from as far a field as Basingstoke (@fleshplastic), Reading (@thesourceress), Andover (@clarebeckingham) and across the Southampton area. Most people arrived early to benefit fully from the half price drinks.. stock pilling bottles to last the night (@neicey).

@Mikeypalmer missed the last tweetup due to a photoshoot in Canada but he took over from @tpphotography and was the official photographer for the night. He also arrived with a new tuesdaytweetuper @fresh_therapies who you must follow if you need to relieve all the stresses and stains of life (massage) or experience one of the best beauty sessions along the south coast.

The 5th tweetup also witnessed the return of @catstormont, she's still to pass her driving test but she was in full swing raising money for the brownies and I think the majority of the tweeters walked away with one of their receipe books. Others raising money for charity (I'm not sure how proactive they were at the tweetup in asking us to dig deep for charity) were @iboov and @adammanning and I'll take a long shot at @pseudonymuk they were all sporting moustaches for #movember; follow them to link to their just giving pages and dig deep.

Want to know who's been and whos coming to the tweetup?

There are three really easy ways to find out who's coming to the tweetup on the 17th November.

The most comprehensive list is the list that Tuesdaytweetup maintains as and when people tweet they will be there - here is the link .

The other place is on facebook (I know, I know twitter is the future)~. There's an event page where you can invite all your twitter and non twitter friends (I'm sure they will eventually convert to twitter). Go on take a look and invite your friends - the more places the tweetup is promoted the more people will turn up and the better the night will be!

The third and maybe the easiest place is to tweet lots on twitter and ask your followers.. if they say they'll be there then let @tuesdaytweetup know and the twitter list will be updated.

The 17th November will be the last tuesdaytweetup of the year - it's been a great social experiment, lots of people have attended the events and here's the list -if you've been to a tweetup and aren't listed then again let @tuesdaytweetup know and you'll be added.

Tuesday Tweetup Lists

Oh no not something else to get my small little brain around, first there was tweeter, then there was tweetups and now there are twitter lists.

I'm not convinced, but thought maybe I should keep a list of everyone that's ever been to a tweetup "I've been to a tweetup". Then I thought it would be good to keep a list of everyone that has said they are going to come to the last tuesdaytweetup of 2009 - "17th Nov". Please let me know if you've been to a tweetup and are not on the first list and if you're coming to the last tweetup of 2009 and you are not on the second list.

I've also spotted that i'm on 11 lists - most of them are local, southampton related however @tuesdaytweetup is also listed on "nice people that RT". thanks to @SSJCharity for the listing.

The jury is out for me on the whole list thing but I'll give it a go and remember Twitter is the icebreaker, Tweetup is the real face to face thing. Put 17th November 6:30pm in your diary and lets meet at the Tuesdaytweetup downstairs at Dockgate 4, Southampton.

Fourth Tuesdaytweetup Great Success

Last night saw the fourth Tuesdaytweetup and it was a real success.

Local tweeters started to arrive early and by 6:30 @planetf was chatting to @lawerancecurtis (who only stayed for a while, he wasnt feeling too good had the infamous cold that is doing the rounds) and @steevbishop, @danwellan, @nixsight had arrived as a group to brave their very first tweetup.

Before I knew it the room was full, it was great to see some of the members of the fareham business growth group turn up - a couple of them were finding out what twitter is all about - I hope they sign on soon (you know who you are). Plus I finally met @parboo she's just moved down from Birmingham after getting a great new role as General Manager for the student union at the university, she's been following the tweetup for a few months and will definately be at the next tweetups.

The photographers arrived @howardlucus, @robdunning, @mccargow, @jon_read and @tpphotography. @tpphotography soon had his camera out capturing the mood of the event.
The make up artists @nicolalalalala and @lipstickmiss arrived and were gutted that no one had turned up with sweeties or cup cakes as promised.

The screen was visualising any tweet on twitter that had the words "tuesdaytweetup" and it was great to see messages from @jtonline and @mrsjtonline sending their apologies for not making the event as were honeymooning in Canada and @clar_key (a tuesdaytweetup faithful) sending his best wishes all the way from california.

It was good to see faces from some of the earlier tweetups @amandagolding, @grantshankey, @lattrill, @adammanning, @cminion along with meeting some new tweetup fans. Here's a few of the tweets that have appeared on twitter from some of the tweetup first timers.

Everyones Asking....

It's been a hectic week and everyone is asking who was at tuesdaytweetup 3? It was another busy evening.. and looking back the list of twitter attendees that i've managed to remember are:=

@carolinek250, how many of you have signed up for the free bootcamp trial, come on it's that time of the year to get fit and healthy.

@jamiescomputers, @amandagolding, @dellacunio the girls behind a great charity cause - if you've got an old PC or laptop sitting gathering dust then these girls need you. Look them up and send your old computer hardware their way. They will recycle it for a good cause.

@freshplastic, @frontieruk, @neicey, @grantshankey, @pseudonymuk, @harris_jon, @fradgepick these guys are at the social centre of the tweetup scene now - great supporters and great tweeters.

@cminion, @RAndyVee, @jtonline (and @mrsjtonline) the hursley guys were out in force.

@gideonwilliams is a fun loving teacher from Alresford and is keen for "real people" to pop in and inspire his pupils on the big wide world. Go on get in contact and see if you can help.

@mikeypalmer, @jon_read these guys love photography and we're all jealous of Mike he really gets around, and is off to Vancouver this summer on business no less.

@barraysampson, @adidio, @peteboov, @nhsdirec. @julian1967, @alexbainbridge were there in body and spirit, mixing and mingling and sharing twitter stories.

And finally @clar_key and @wozman were there providing their full support and @clar_key sponsored the award of the night, a bottle of champers that was won by @neicey..!

I know some tuesdaytweetup faithfuls were disappointed that they couldn't make the event but have promised to be there next time, @icicle_halo_ and @ljattrill had work commitments that they just couldnt get out of. @catstormont and @kay_bee were away on holiday, @kevinbriscoe and @docloraine were otherwise engaged and @adammanning was enjoying the evening with his new born son and not so new born daughter.

The Social Experiment Continues

What can I say other than bowled over. Another great night at the tuesdaytweetup and some great feedback. The tuesdaytweetup is still in its infancy and its clear we are all still working out what to make of it - but I guess that goes for twitter too!

Is the tweetup a business event? Is it aimed only at media types? Is it a techie event? or is it a social event? And I'm beginning to realise it's what ever people want to make it.

As for who was there, who was mixing and mingling and really getting behind the event and enjoying the company there are too many to mention. The guys behind @collaboratehq arrived before anyone else and they are an interesting bunch with an office opening in Italy soon. @kevinbriscoe, @lwarren17 and @lisaharris were quick to follow in their footsteps and start mixing with the tweetup crowd. And i finally got to meet the man behind the logo yeap @apatheticmike who was at the event with @tomchapman who has a great understanding of the world of twitter.

Among the new comers to the tweetup were @bennap who is expanding and opening an office in southampton shortly. @barrysampson who recently launched onlightment and is a big player in the e-learning circles. @jofarnold presented at openwebsoton and reading his blog site seems to be a serial technical entrepreneur. @alicedickenson who arrived with @catstormont both work for alto marketing you may have spotted recent tweets about their marina offices. @quaiacom new to twitter and a twitter skeptic on the night but i think we all managed to convinced him that there is far more to it than just updating on status.

But for me the highlight of the event was meeting up with @sotonrich, @neicey and @ljattrill who had all arrived bravely at the tweetup not knowing what to expect , had meet each other for the first time and grabbed me at the end of the night singing the praises of the tweetup while hot footing with others to finish the night at Pizza Express.

All of this has got me thinking what is the tuesdaytweetup it started off as one thing but i'm starting to think its turning into something else ... roll on tuesdaytweetup 3!

TuesdayTweetup is a 100 days Old

Its hard to believe Tuesdaytweetup is a 100 days old today. It was started as a social experiment with a call out on twitter to all creative genuises, social commentators, smart thinkers and digital darlings. The highlights of the idea so far must be:-

• Dockgate 4 agreed to host the event providing the piano bar for exclusive use by solent based Tweeters.
• @dailyecho and @sccevent quickly supported the event and included @tuesdaytweetup in the #followfriday campaign and an article appeared in the local business pages @dailyecho http://snipr.com/eojq6
• @adammanning and @icicle_halo_ were soon promoting the event within their own twitter circles.
• @theroryjackson and @mynameisbainsy volunteered to film the event as part of the social experiment. http://tuesdaytweetup.blogspot.com/2009/04/tuesday-tweetup-video.html
  
• 31st March circa 70 tweeters and facebook followers attended the first tuesdaytweetup event at dockgate 4 piano bar.
• 1st April @catstormont wrote about the tweetup on her blog site and this was quickly followed by @adammanning and @jtonline.
• 6th April one month on photos of the event appear in scene south daily echo pages and followers of @tuesdaytweetup have one more day to vote in the poll on the frequency of the future tuesday tweetups.
• 11th May the tuesdaytweetup logos designed by @apatheticmike were launched.
  
• 17th May Mashable.com agree to promote the tuesdaytweetup
  
• @theroryjackson has confirmed he'll do a 5 minute stand up at the next tuesdaytweetup on the 16th June.
• 5th June Dockgate 4 have confirmed 50% drinks offer for first 30 minutes and free tapas circulating for the first hour..
• 6th June @tuesdaytweetup breaks the 300 follower threshold with many followers now solent based

It's been a great 100 days and what started out as a social experiment has grown into a network of talent - @tuesdaytweetup is now counting down to the second tuesdaytweetup at dockgate 4 southampton. It probably will be the event with the most solent based tweeters in one place at the same time - it will be an interesting night.

The next tuesdaytweetup will be on the 16th June at Dockgate 4 Piano Bar Southampton from 6:30pm til late.

@tuesdaytweetup has over 60 new local followers since the last tweetup and "word of mouth" is working, the 16th June will be a great event.

Full of news, events and updates about the social media world, from facebook to twitter and all things social - mashable is worth knowing about, it's exciting to know that they are supporting the tuesdaytweetup - it may be an event outside of London but the event is thanks to the world of social media without it the tweetup would not have been launched.

It's Not What You Know It's Who You Follow

Really impressed with so many of the local @tuesdaytweetup follower profiles and the @tuesdaytweetup tweets. The adage "it's not what you know it's who you know" for me is starting to be "it's not what you know it's who you follow"

Not an hour goes by on twitter when tuesdaytweetup doesn't witness followers helping followers out. It's really great to see and that was the inspiration for the tuesdaytweetup. It's a local event, to share ideas and bring the world of twitter into the real world. It's so true, at the last tweetup people felt as if they already knew each other, when all they'd been up until the event was just an avatar on the twitter timeline. Twitter is a great ice-breaker and the tuesdaytweetup provides the time and space to really get to know your followers better.

• @wozman provided his technical wizardry and re-enabled the wifi set up at dockgate 4
• @adammanning promoted the tuesdaytweetup at the future business growth network
• @kevinbriscoe and @icicle_halo_ provided media contacts to #winchesterweb
• @apatheticmike designed the tuesdaytweetup logos
• @clar_key and @botleypark suggested some sponsorship ideas - that are still in the melting pot
  
• @sccevents and @dailyecho continue to plug the event
• @fhoke had a request RT'd to the tuesdaytweetup followers looking for iphone developers
• @hispeedtweetup and @winchesterweb have been promoted to the tuesdaytweetup followers
• @benjiegillam had a request RT to the tuesdaytweetup followers looking for other southampton based tweeters interested in creating a hackerspace in the city
• And cheekily @tuesdaytweetup quickly found out what time the 17:35 train from waterloo got into Southampton Central.
  

It really is a case of it's not what you know it's who you follow - thank goodness for twitter - and the followers of @tuesdaytweetup

Tuesday Tweetup Has a Logo Or Three

Great news Tuesdaytweetup has a new logo. A number of tuesdaytweetup followers thought the dolphin image was a great image to represent the tuesdaytweetup but it was time for a new image. @apatheticmike took up the challenge and worked his genius on a number of logos, all of which got praise from the tuesdaytweetup followers. These three logos won the feedback race - they represent the tuesdaytweetup - its about speaking up and attending the tuesdaytweetup. Thanks to @apatheticmike the tuesdaytweetup now has three logos that will rotate on twitter and represent the tuesday tweetup on various websites facebook, eventbrite, upcoming - the logo will be out and about representing the tuesdaytweetup and all its followers. So Much To Do and So Little Time

The 16th June may feel like a long time away but for the tuesdaytweetup there is still lots to do and not much time to do it.

@icicle_halo_ has suggested an idea and its involving an element of research and thought to make sure that we make the most of it - tuesdaytweetup is hoping to announce the idea before next weekend but I think some of the followers of tuesdaytweetup will be impressed.

The followers of tuesdaytweetup are growing, it's good to keep up with all the new followers and many of them are letting tuesdaytweetup know if they are planning on attending the next tweetup. It's fascinating to read about the diverse group of followers and the interesting lifes they lead.

This week @overland2oz definately gets the "most interesting" new follower" with a planned trip from the UK to OZ - all for charity but what an experience - check out her website to see the route she plans to follow.

The next few weeks are going to be hectic and as we get closer to the 16th June keep spreading the tuesdaytweetup word and I look forward to catching up with all tuesdaytweetup followers at the event.

Tuesday Tweetup What A Week

It's been another good week for Tuesday Tweetup. Lots of great comments and feedback following the launch of the TuesdayTweetup Video (see last post). @theroryjackson and @mynameisbainsy really did a great job and as we know from @mynameisbainsy's latest tweet the filming is the fun bit its the editing that takes the time - thanks again guys for your hard work.

Following the launch of the video the online twittering between the tuesdaytweetup clan has increased. @Tomchapman put out a cry for help and @apatheticmike came to his rescue; @winchesterweb was looking for media contacts, @kevinbriscoe and @icicle_halo_ were happy to help out. Plus people are starting to ask, who else will be attending the tuesdaytweetup on the 16th June.

Solent Based Social Media Events & Tweetups

Since launching TuesdayTweetup I've been impressed by the number of "events" that are starting to spring up to get like minded people talking.

#openwebsoton was hosted on April 16th at Royal Southampton Yacht Club - the photos and videos look great and it was attended by people from across the South.

#winchesterweb is a monthly event held in winchester attracting winchester based creative types - the next one is happening in May and it really is starting to get a following.

And then today was the launch of @HiSpeedTweetup for those Solent based creatives that travel from the IOW to Southampton on a regular basis - a 23 min tweetup first thing in the morning - sound fab.

Twitter and Tweetups are really getting like minded people connected - that's got to be a good thing.

It's official the Tuesdaytweetup is up and running and the next Tweetup is in the planning phase. We've secured the venue, you've guessed it Dockgate 4 Piano Bar (yes it has wifi); We've secured the date, 16th June, you've guessed it it's a Tuesday. All we need now is to get the @tuesdaytweetup followers to put it into your diaries and start spreading the word.

For all Tweetup faithfuls you know what to expect - for the newer tweetup followers keep an eye on @tuesdaytweetup. @tuesdaytweetup will keep you informed as the plans progress, who you can expect to meet and what to expect on the night.

Tuesdaytweetup Is A Month Old

Its pretty exciting when you think Tuesdaytweetup is a month old today. @tuesdaytweetup went live a month ago. This blog was created on the same day. A few close friends followed pretty quickly and then word of mouth and the twitter machine took hold. The following highlights @tuesdaytweetup's journey.

• Dockgate 4 agreed to host the event providing the piano bar for exclusive use by solent based Tweeters.
• @dailyecho and @sccevent quickly supported the event and included @tuesdaytweetup in the #followfriday campaign.
• @adammanning and @icicle_halo_ were soon promoting the event within their own twitter circles.
• @theroryjackson and @mynameisbainsy volunteered to film the event as part of the social experiment.
• @spindrwoody secured media coverage on the business pages of the daily echo.
  
• 31st March circa 70 tweeters and facebook followers attended the first tuesdaytweetup event at dockgate 4 piano bar.
• 1st April @catstormont wrote about the tweetup on her blog site and this was quickly followed by @adammanning and @jtonline.
• 6th April one month on photos of the event appear in scene south daily echo pages and followers of @tuesdaytweetup have one more day to vote in the poll on the frequency of the future tuesday tweetups.

Its been a busy month and hopefully a beneficial month for the followers of @tuesdaytweetup with a total of 168 followers, mainly based along the south coast the future of the tuesday tweetup looks promising.

After a twitter from @TheRoryJackson I'm thinking maybe TuesdayTweetup should consider crowdsourcing.

I'm starting to wonder, with the followers attracted to @tuesdaytweetup, whether there's something in crowdsourcing for the Tuesday Tweetup. Should I throw out an offer to all those attending for you to suggest ideas that will help make the 31st March an evening to remember?.

The event is for you to network, to catch up and to share ideas. We have the time and the place, we have the bar man and the background music. Is there something more the event could have?

The Winner of the Week

The first TuesdayTweetup winner of the week has to go to @icicle_halo_ who managed to get @RuthBarnett sky news' twitter correspondant to re-tweet the tweetup details.

She had close contenders for the title, @clar_key, @dailyecho , @spindrwoody and @lisaharris all have been actively promoting the tweetup - the more its promoted the more fun it will be on the 31st March.

Tuesdaytweetup launched a week ago and what a week its been.

@tuesdaytweetup is following 127 and is being followed by 75 twitter members.

The website is live www.tuesdaytweetup.com with 36 votes on the attendance poll.
